As autumn’s vibrant colors surround us, we journey toward the rolling hills of West Virginia, stopping first in the Amish community of Oakland, MD, for a hearty home-cooked meal. Our adventure continues with a visit to Blackwater Falls, where a scenic stairway leads to an observation deck offering stunning views of the 65-foot waterfall and the 525-foot-deep gorge below. We explore the Smoke Hole Caverns, featuring an underground lake and stream, these breathtaking caverns have been open for tours since 1942.
Train Ride
Next we board the Potomac Eagle Train for a three-hour narrated ride along the South Branch of the Potomac River. As we travel through lush mountain landscapes, we’ll have the rare opportunity to spot wildlife, including the majestic American Bald Eagle. Be sure to bring your binoculars for this unforgettable experience!
